We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we live and celebrate their enduring knowledge and connections to country. We honour the wisdom of and pay respect to Elders past, present & emerging.
'NAIDOC’ stands for the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee. Naidoc Week is a week to celebrate Indigenous culture, heritage & achievements, commemorate our First Nations history, unify communities and for Indigenous Australians to share with the rest of the nation.
The theme of Naidoc Week 2024 is ‘Keep The Fire Burning - Blak, Loud and Proud’, acknowledging the unyielding spirit of Aboriginal communities and inviting all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.
“The fire represents the enduring strength and vitality of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples....
..."Blak, Loud and Proud" encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity, empowering us to stand tall in our heritage and assert our place in the modern world. ”
The focus of NAIDOC Week 2024 and beyond calls for the amplification of indigenous voices & encourages all Australians to listen, learn and engage in meaningful dialogue where the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous peoples are fully valued and respected.
We encourage you to visit the NAIDOC website here and find out more about how you can participate and support and amplify the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander communities.
