Practice makes perfect! If you’re a newcomer to wearing chunky platforms, we have you covered with all your how-to’s and do-not’s to make sure your platform wearing experience is a magical one!
Firstly, ensure you’re wearing the right size shoe. We can help you get the perfect fit in store, otherwise we have a comprehensive size chart (as well as super helpful over the phone / email help if you need it). With the perfect size shoe, you should feel stable, secure & supported. If you’re someone who floats between sizes (like me!) sometimes we will recommend a thicker sock or gel liner to ensure that comfy, supported fit.
Ok, I have my platforms now - so I walk in them?
Small steps, take it slow: We always recommend starting your practice at home, somewhere you are familiar with. Take small steps, taking it slowly and mindfully.
Flat surface: Especially when you’re a beginner to platforms, start your journey on a flat surface to protect your ankles and shoe - once you feel more competent you can start tackling different terrains.
Plant your foot when using stairs: Stairs are an easy place to become unstuck when learning in platforms, ensure your whole foot is planted when you step down & use a handrail if available.
Good posture: Keep good posture, this will ensure you have a perfect centre of gravity to navigate any wobbles or uneven terrain.
Be mindful on uneven surfaces: Put your phone down & keep an eye on your surroundings - it’s too easy to be distracted and not be aware of the surface your walking on & any trip hazards. Plus it’s just nice to take in what’s happening around you irl.
DO NOT
- Run in your platforms
- Be on your phone
- Drive in platforms (keep a spare pair of shoes in your car to pop on)
- Wear platforms that are way too big for you
- Wear them undone - make sure you’re laced up & buckled up safe & sound.
